Pakistan Offers Gulf Countries Oil Storage Facility in Gwadar for Emergency Use

Pakistan is planning to build strategic oil reserves in Gwadar under a major new energy project called the Energy City. The government has invited Gulf countries and other oil-producing nations to invest in oil storage facilities at Gwadar Port to improve Pakistan’s energy security during emergencies, wars, or global supply disruptions.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry recently discussed the proposal with Kuwaiti Ambassador Nasser Abdulrahman Jasser Al Mutairi. He invited Kuwait to become a key partner in the Energy City project. In return, Pakistan would receive first access to these oil stocks if the country faces fuel shortages, conflict, or supply chain problems.

The planned Energy City will include LNG and LPG terminals, fuel storage units, and modern energy logistics infrastructure. The project aims to turn Gwadar into a regional energy hub connected to international trade and shipping routes.

This proposal is also a revival of earlier plans to establish an Oil City in Gwadar. Previous efforts could not move forward because of geopolitical issues, security concerns, and limited commercial interest at the time.

Gwadar’s location near major global shipping routes could make the project important for regional energy trade, while also helping Pakistan strengthen its fuel reserves during emergencies.
