Pakistan has recorded its highest ever annual remittances, as overseas Pakistanis sent $41.6 billion during the fiscal year 2025 to 2026. The total was 8.6 percent higher than the previous fiscal year, making it the largest amount of foreign money received through workers’ remittances in the country’s history.
According to official figures from the State Bank of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia remained the largest source of remittances during the year. The United Arab Emirates ranked second, while the United Kingdom, the United States, and Italy also made strong contributions. Millions of Pakistanis living and working abroad regularly send money home to support their families, pay for education, healthcare, housing, and daily expenses.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Pakistani diaspora for their continued support. He described overseas Pakistanis as a valuable national asset and said their contributions play an important role in strengthening the country’s economy during challenging times.
Remittances are one of Pakistan’s biggest sources of foreign exchange. They help increase foreign currency reserves, improve the current account balance, and reduce pressure on the Pakistani rupee. Strong remittance inflows also support household spending and increase economic activity across the country.
