Punjab’s Education Minister has said that the provincial government is considering announcing summer vacations in schools from May 22 to August 2 due to the ongoing intense heatwave across the region.
According to officials, authorities are reviewing different proposals while monitoring rising temperatures and weather conditions. The main focus is to protect students, teachers, and school staff from extreme heat while ensuring that academic activities continue in a safe and organized manner.
Education department officials stated that consultations are currently underway with relevant departments before making a final decision. Weather reports and heatwave forecasts are also being closely examined to assess the possible impact on students and educational institutions.
The proposed early summer break comes as several cities in Punjab continue to experience unusually high temperatures. Experts have warned that prolonged exposure to extreme heat can create health risks, especially for young children and students attending schools during daytime hours.
Parents and teachers have also expressed concern about the severe weather conditions and the difficulties faced by students during daily travel and classroom activities. Many people are supporting the idea of early vacations to reduce health risks during the heatwave period.
Officials clarified that no final notification has been issued yet, and the government will announce its official decision after completing consultations and reviewing weather updates.
Authorities have advised schools and parents to take precautionary measures during the heatwave, including ensuring proper hydration, avoiding unnecessary outdoor exposure, and following health guidelines.
The possible change in the academic schedule highlights the government’s efforts to prioritize student safety and respond to the growing impact of extreme weather conditions across Punjab.
