Punjab Govt Seeks Suspension of Facebook, WhatsApp, and Other Social Media Platforms from 6th to 11th Muharram

The Punjab government has formally made a request to suspend the operation of major social media platforms from Muharram 6 to 11.

During a recent meeting of the Cabinet’s Standing Committee on Law and Order, significant attention was given to reviewing security measures for the upcoming religious period.

The main goal of this request is to prevent potential sectarian tensions and ensure public safety by temporarily restricting access to popular social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.

Officials from the Home Department have forwarded this request to the Ministry of Interior of Pakistan, emphasizing the urgent need for action to maintain peace and security throughout this sensitive time.

This measure underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful environment during Muharram, a period of religious significance and communal observance.
