Punjab to Get Three New National Parks

Tentative plans to create three national parks in the province have been approved by the Chief Minister of Punjab, Sardar Usman Buzdar. As for developments, the targeted areas for the establishment of the parks are Kallar Kahar, Kehri Morat, and Pibi Rasool.

Firdous Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Information, tweeted about the development today. In the tweet, she announced that in Kallar Kahar, a park spanning an area of 13,700 acres will be created. The remaining two parks will occupy areas of 8,740 acres and 38,874 acres, respectively, namely Kehri Morat National Park and Pibi Rasool National Park.

These parks would help to minimize environmental pollution, protect endangered species of flora and fauna, and boost tourism in the Punjab region, experts claim.

The Himalaya and Nanga Parbat National Parks in Gilgit Baltistan were formerly inaugurated by PM Imran Khan as a sanctuary for endangered wildlife and to encourage eco-tourism.

These national parks will support endangered species such as snow leopards, Himalayan brown bear, Ladakh urial, ibex, markhors, and blue sheep, provided the rich biodiversity in various parts of the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
