Saadia Saadat has made history by becoming the first Muslim British-Pakistani woman elected as a councillor in the United Kingdom. She won the Caversham Heights ward seat in the Reading Borough Council elections, defeating a Labour candidate in a closely contested race.
Contesting on a Conservative Party ticket, Saadia turned a long-held Labour seat into a Conservative victory through dedicated door-to-door campaigning and strong community engagement. Her victory is being widely celebrated as a major milestone for the British-Pakistani community and for greater Muslim representation in UK local politics.
A graduate of the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in Pakistan, Saadia works in a multinational company in the UK. She has been actively involved in social welfare projects, particularly helping women and youth in her community. Her campaign focused on local issues such as better healthcare, education, and community safety.
Her success has inspired many young British Pakistanis, especially women, to participate in politics. Community leaders described her win as a proud moment that reflects the growing influence and integration of the Pakistani diaspora in British public life.
Saadia Saadat’s achievement highlights the increasing diversity in UK local councils and brings fresh hope for better representation of minority communities in British politics.
