Shab-e-Meraj to be Observed Tonight

Shab-e-Meraj, also known as the Night Journey or Ascension, holds a profound significance in Islamic tradition. It marks the miraculous journey undertaken by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) from Mecca to Jerusalem and then to the highest levels of heaven and back. This celestial voyage is mentioned in the Holy Quran and is considered one of the greatest miracles in Islam.

The journey took place on the 27th night of Rajab, the seventh month of the Islamic lunar calendar. It commenced when the Archangel Gabriel (Jibreel) appeared to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and presented him with a winged steed named Al-Buraq. With Gabriel as his guide, the Prophet embarked on this extraordinary journey.

The first leg of the journey saw the Prophet traveling from the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Upon reaching Jerusalem, the Prophet led a congregation of prophets in prayer at Al-Aqsa, affirming his status as the Seal of the Prophets. From there, he ascended through the seven heavens, encountering various celestial realms and meeting other prophets along the way, such as Adam, Moses, and Jesus (peace be upon them).

At each level of heaven, the Prophet received divine revelations and blessings. Notably, it was during this journey that the command for the five daily prayers (Salat) was bestowed upon the Prophet and his followers. This emphasizes the importance of prayer in Islam and serves as a reminder of the connection between the earthly and celestial realms.

The significance of Shab-e-Meraj extends beyond its miraculous nature. It serves as a source of spiritual inspiration and guidance for Muslims worldwide. The journey symbolizes the Prophet’s unwavering faith, devotion, and obedience to Allah. It underscores the importance of striving for spiritual ascension and closeness to the Divine.

On this auspicious night, Muslims engage in special prayers, remembrance, and reflection. Mosques are illuminated, and gatherings are held where religious scholars expound upon the significance of the Meraj and its lessons for believers. It is a time for seeking forgiveness, mercy, and blessings from Allah, as well as for strengthening one’s faith and commitment to Islamic teachings.

In essence, Shab-e-Meraj is a profound manifestation of divine mercy and guidance, reminding believers of the Prophet’s exemplary journey and his role as the messenger of Islam. It is a night of spiritual elevation, reflection, and devotion for Muslims worldwide.
