Shocking New Legislation Allows Telecom Companies to ‘Occupy’ Your Private Property

The National Assembly has passed the Pakistan Telecommunication Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill 2026. The bill has now been sent to the Senate for further review.

The new law would let licensed telecom companies install mobile towers and lay fibre-optic cables on private homes, commercial buildings, and government properties. Companies can do this after giving notice. Under Section 27B, property owners, landlords, tenants, and institutions must allow access. Refusal could lead to heavy fines of up to Rs50 million.

Many people are worried about this bill. It raises serious concerns about constitutional property rights. Senator Palwasha Khan, Chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on IT and Telecommunication, said the law was passed without enough public consultation. She pointed out problems with the short 15-day notice period.

Journalists and analysts have strongly criticised the move. They call it a threat to people’s homes and land. Some say it gives too much power to telecom firms and the government. The committee is now reviewing the bill clause by clause and may suggest changes.

Supporters argue the bill will help expand fast internet and digital services across Pakistan, but critics fear misuse and loss of basic rights. The final decision rests with the Senate.
