Skardu Airport becomes operational after heavy snowfall

After the central valley of Gilgit-Baltistan received substantial snowfall during the last four days, the Skardu Airport has been prepared for flight operations.

Skardu is one of the world’s highest airports, at 7,500 feet above sea level. The runway at Skardu Airport was closed due to severe snowfall, but the CAA authorities have finally cleared it. Airplanes can now land and take off at the airport.

The runway and upper apron parts of the airport were closed completely owing to 6 inches of snow at the airport, which was cleaned in eight hours, according to airport management.
