Tourists in Italy’s Town Could Be Fined for Posing for Selfies

Tourists who love taking selfies during their vacations might want to reconsider visiting Portofino, as the Italian town has implemented new rules that could affect their holiday photos.

The colorful town on the Italian Riviera has set up no-waiting zones in popular beauty spots to prevent tourists from lingering and taking pictures, with a potential fine of up to 275 euros (Rs 24,777) for taking selfies.

The new regulations are due to the overcrowding of these areas during peak times of the holiday season, which has caused “anarchic chaos” and resulted in traffic jams.

The rules apply to two picturesque spots that have become famous on Instagram, and are enforced between 10.30 am and 6 pm. Similar restrictions on selfies have been introduced in other tourist destinations and famous attractions worldwide, including the United States, France, and the UK.
