The University of Karachi (UoK) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Karachi Alumni Association, Houston, Texas (UKAHA) in the United States. This agreement focuses on providing “need-based” scholarships to students, spanning two semesters. Beneficiaries include students from eight diverse departments, encompassing international relations, economics, psychology, mass communication, chemistry, statistics, mathematics, and computer science.

The financial assistance initiative, titled the “UKAHA Academic Achievement Award,” was formalized through the signing of the MoU by UoK Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi and UKAHA Houston President Muhammad Azam Akhtar. Dr. Iraqi commended the alumni body’s commitment to supporting students, emphasizing the potential of UoK students on a global scale.

The UKAHA Houston President, Akhtar, acknowledged the pivotal role played by the university and its faculty in the success of alumni. He expressed confidence in the continued support of the alumni body, highlighting the increased annual financial grant to Rs one million from the initial Rs 500,000, addressing rising inflation and living costs. This collaboration underscores the enduring connection between the alumni and their alma mater, fostering a culture of support and recognition for academic achievements.
