A 21-year-old deaf and mute girl, Dua Jamali from Balochistan, has become Pakistan’s first known hearing and speech-impaired liver donor. She successfully donated a portion of her liver to save her critically ill father at the Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Sindh.
Dua, a 10th-grade student from Chowki Jamali area in Balochistan, donated part of her liver to her father, Mansoor Khan Jamali, on May 20, 2026. Dua’s maternal uncle, Syed Atif Ali, shared that the family faced months of stress and worry after doctors told them that only a liver transplant could save Mansoor’s life. He also said, “He first had jaundice, but further tests showed serious liver damage.”
When the family was struggling to find a suitable donor, Dua bravely stepped forward and expressed her wish to donate despite being unable to hear or speak. After thorough medical tests and compatibility checks, doctors confirmed she was fit to donate.
The complex surgery was successfully performed at GIMS, one of Pakistan’s top liver transplant centres. Family members said both Dua and her father are recovering well after the operation.
Medical experts have praised Dua, saying her bravery proves that physical disabilities are not a barrier to humanity and sacrifice.
