CPEC Attracted $25 Billion in Pakistan within 7 Years

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has made significant progress since its inception seven years ago, bringing a total of $25 billion in direct investments to Pakistan.

Many projects have been started or completed under CPEC, a dynamic project of President Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), according to Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin during his regular briefing in Beijing.

He specifically mentioned the completion of Pakistan’s first electric-powered public transportation project, the Orange Line Metro Line (OLMT) in Lahore. “Last month, as an early harvest project, the Orange Line became operational, ushering in Pakistan’s subway era,” he said.

Wang stated that projects completed under the CPEC have improved Pakistan’s infrastructure and power supply, created jobs for locals, and contributed to the growth of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

“These projects improved the country’s infrastructure and electricity supply, created over 70,000 direct jobs, and contributed 1 to 2 percentage points to GDP growth,” the spokesperson added.
