LNG Prices Jump Sharply by Up to 28% in Pakistan

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority has announced a major increase in liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices for May 2026 following a rise in international import costs and expensive LNG cargo deliveries.

According to the latest notification issued by the regulator, the revised LNG rates will apply to consumers connected to both the Sui Southern Gas Company and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited networks. The increase has been linked to higher global energy prices and the overall cost of imported LNG shipments arriving in Pakistan during the month.

Under the new pricing structure, LNG supplied through the SSGC system has increased by US$3.51 per MMBtu, taking the price to US$16.04 per MMBtu. Similarly, the LNG price for consumers connected to the SNGPL network has gone up by US$3.43 per MMBtu, bringing the final rate to US$16.98 per MMBtu.

The latest hike is expected to put additional pressure on consumers and businesses already facing rising utility expenses. Experts believe the increase could also affect electricity generation costs, industrial production, and overall energy tariffs across the country, as LNG remains a key fuel source for power plants and several industries in Pakistan.
