Pakistan and the United States are working toward establishing direct air connectivity between the two countries after recent discussions between aviation officials in Karachi. A US delegation visited the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) headquarters and held talks with senior officials about the long-awaited air link.
During the meeting, Pakistani officials briefed the US side on the country’s aviation safety and security measures. They also explained how these systems follow international requirements as well as standards set by the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
US Consul General Karachi Charles Goodman welcomed the progress made by Pakistan in improving aviation safety and security. He also assured continued US support for efforts to establish direct flights.
Both sides agreed to maintain communication and cooperation in the civil aviation sector as the process moves forward. Pakistan had suspended PIA flights to the US in November 2017.
Officials believe direct flights could make travel easier for passengers, strengthen people-to-people links, and support closer cooperation between Pakistan and the United States.
