The Punjab government has decided to close all theatres across the province during the first 13 days of Muharram-ul-Haram. The Punjab Arts Council issued a clear order that no stage dramas, theatrical performances, or cultural shows will be allowed from the 1st to the 13th of Muharram.
This step has been taken to respect the sanctity of Muharram and honour the religious sentiments of the people. Theatre owners have been directed to strictly follow the instructions. The decision aims to create a peaceful and respectful environment during this holy period when Muslims remember the sacrifice of Imam Hussain.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government is making strong security arrangements for Youm-e-Ashura. Authorities are focusing on procession routes, majalis gatherings, and sensitive areas. Law enforcement agencies, including police and other forces, will be deployed in large numbers to maintain peace and ensure safety.
Section 144 has also been imposed in many areas to prevent any untoward incidents. The government is working to provide all necessary facilities like clean water, electricity, and medical support for mourners.
This annual practice shows the importance given to religious harmony in Punjab. People appreciate the move as it helps maintain calm and allows everyone to observe Muharram with full devotion and respect.
