Punjab Extends Winter Vacation for Schools

The Punjab interim government has extended winter vacation for schools by another week, citing harsh cold weather conditions. This decision, announced by Punjab interim Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, particularly affects students in Class one and below (Nursery, Prep, and KG), with their classes remaining suspended for the additional week. The extension comes as the Meteorological Office forecasts cold and dry weather in Punjab, with prevalent fog.

In response to the challenging weather conditions, the government has not only extended holidays but also altered school timings. Classes are now scheduled to commence at 9:30 am from January 10 to January 22. The announcement of additional holidays for young learners is a precautionary measure following concerns about the risk of pneumonia, which has tragically claimed the lives of several children.

Furthermore, the government has decided to postpone exams in light of the unfortunate deaths. This decision reflects a prioritization of student well-being and safety amid the adverse weather conditions. The move to adjust both vacation duration and school timings underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding the health and welfare of students in the region during the winter season.
